The Khandala ghat goes through the Sahyadri range and joins Pune to Mumbai through both NH4 and Mumbai-Pune Expressway. In between the Expressway crosses the Old Mumbai Pune highway. The ghat stretches for almost 12.4 kms approximately between Khandala & Khopoli. If you start from the Pune side towards Mumbai the ghat gradually descends down. As Pune being at 560m from sea level on the higher side and Mumbai being  on average of 14m from the sea level. The ghat do have some sharp turns but due to the new spanning Expressway it is easy to traverse. There are 4 tunnels on the ghat on the Expressway Kamshet I tunnel, Kamshet II tunnel, Khandala tunnel and Adoshi tunnel. Landslides do occur on this ghat due to heavy rains and the road authority each year is taking precautions by netting and concrete to prevent such hazards. Still while driving in rainy season one has to be cautious while driving on this ghat. As most of the stretch is at a height between the mountains, huge valleys and fog covered. Also it makes a popular picnic spot due to its beautiful and scenic views, greenery and waterfalls.
